The Grinning Reaper Witchdoctor Build for Diablo 3 Season 1

Build Guide

Intro

Hey you guys, I have been having alot of fun with this version of my Witchdoctor during the first seasons in Diablo 3. The entire build is focused around maximizing the effects of the Grin Reaper helm. The helm summons 2 mimics that cast a limited selection of your spells without Mana, CD's or limit counts. What this means is they are able to spam abilites that would normally run the player out of mana, or has a cooldown, such as Piranhado, and the lack of a limit count can be abused with Spider queen and Lob Blob Bomb.

Abilities

The 3 core abilities that are abused are Piranhado, Acid Cloud - lob Blob Bomb, and Spider queens. Normally the players has a CD on Piranhado, however mimics do not have this requirement. Lob blob bomb is limited to 3 blobs at a time, not for mimics who can have as many blobs up as they wish. Same idea with Spider queen, Normally you can only have 1 queen out at a time, however with mimics, you can easily get 10+ out since they stay for 15seconds and the Helm has a very high proc chance.

The other 3 abilities are also great, however mimics do not cast these. Jaunt for obvious not dying reasons. Locust Swarm helps spread your Gem damage quickly, and finally Zombie dogs gives you a set of tank, and works with our passives for 20% more HP.

Gear Synergy

We are not only synergizing with the Helm, but also with poison damage. I used Swamp land waders as well as poison damage on my bracers and neck to give a total of 51% increase to poison damage.

Diablo 3 Patch 2.1 PTR Hype is in full Swing!

Blizzard has released the first piece of concrete information as to what we can expect in patch 2.1 and to start things off with a bang you can expect a PTR hopefully within the month. Until then we are going to get into the new information surrounding Diablo 3 Patch 2.1

Seasons!

Seasons will be a new addition to the Diablo 3 endgame once Patch 2.1 has been released. The concept is not new to the Diablo franchise and familiar to anyone who has played Diablo 2 for more than a year. You will start each season with a fresh characters, fresh stash, and level 1 crafting merchants. Basically you start over, its like a game wipe, but there will still be the "normal" zone that all characters are dumped into after seasons end.

Why the hell would I want to start over again? NEW LEGENDARIES!

Well for starters you can have a shot at some fancy new legendaries. Blizzard has not released any information on numbers or what types, but that there will be season exclusive legendaries. Once a season ends those legendaries will be carried over into the normal Diablo 3. Also there will be Legendary Gems that can be placed in Neck and Rings and are upgrade able by completing more Greater Rifts.

Want to get into some awesome greater rifts?

Maybe if you tell me what the hell that is! Formerly referred to as Teird Rifts, a Greater Rift is going to be a rift that is more structured than the current random rifts you have been running, and will be a place for you to truly test your characters strength and match it up against that of your friends and enemies. There will be leader boards for solo, and groups of all sizes, allowing you to create the perfect comp with your friends and still feel competitive.
To open a Greater Rift you will need a Greater Rift Keystone will can be found on Rift bosses in normal rifts. When you are in a group with your friends currently each player will need their own Greater Rift Keystone in order to join in on the fun.

Changes to Healing and Dexterity!

First off apparently its not good for us to rely on health globes so heavily in later Greater Rifts, there fore they are changing globes to grant less healing but buffing life regeneration on gear to compensate.
Dexterity will no long give dodge, instead it will be granting armor much like strength does. A few talents will have to be re-adjusted but in the end real damage mitigation is always better than not dodging and being dead.

New playable zone in Rifts: The Cesspools!

The Cesspools are a dank underworld feeling area that did not make it into the original game, however after a bit of polishing they will be ready for your enjoyment in patch 2.1 rifts.

Auction House last call for Alcohol!

The Auction House will be officially closing all doors for the last time, no long will you be able to collect any gold or items that you may have left in your completion tabs from days of old. All items left in the auction house tabs after June 24th will be permanently deleted.

TheoryCraft Thursday Review with 2.1 information!

Whats going on you guys, Diablofans user MrMonstrosity came up with a great list of things supposed to change with patch 2.1 according to the dev stream that occured thursday. Link to Dfans Posting: http://www.diablofans.com/

Whats Hints did we receive?

Legendary Changes?

Some old legendarys are going to be revamped in 2.1, this most likely means that some of the more "boring" 6 stat random legendary's will have cool stats added to them, much like the more sought after legendarys. Adding to the increased good loot pool will be new legendary gems. Hints seem to lend us to believe these will be using in rings and amulets. While this seems a good thing, it means you will have to rethink the primary properties on your rings and amulets even more.

Infernal Machines

Hellfire Amulet! Yes you heard that right, hopefully it will be better than that paper-weight of a Hellfire Ring we have right now. And to make sure you try and get that amulet, there are talks of improving infernal machines and the entire process/reward structure of them.

Teired Rifts

Teired rifts are not going to be exactly the same every time but the Devs are working hard to make sure they are not "too random" as that could cause you to get poor rift times due to RNG. This also means a reduction in things that may speed up your runs, such as conduit pylons. Teired rift monsters will not drop loot, however the bosses at the end will be much more rewarding the mobs currently ingame.

That Bitch Kadala!

Apparently Kadala is not supposed to be such a biatch, and should say nice things every once in a while, but currently she is only spouting words of hate!

Diablo 3 Patch 2.0.6 Review

Link to the Official Patch Notes: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/14397824/patch-206-now-live-6-10-2014

Whats going on you guys, Patch 2.0.6 has just hit live servers in the US and boy is it a good one. This patch came out of no where and works to increase your ability to get gear even more. Namely no more legendary crafting materials. Want to hear more? Lets get to it.

Stupid monk stuff

Yes yes your monk is broken I know, and blizzard knows also. They did some things to help alleviate the burn your probably receiving if you play a monk using anything but exploding palm.
Here they specifically increased the damage of one passive, momentum. While also making the set bonus from 2 of their sets extremely better.

For the Rest of Us

NO MORE LEGENDARY CRAFTING MATERIALS!
Cheer it from roof to roof, no longer do you have to farm for hours just to craft a crappy piece of aughilds set! All of the legendary materials have been removed and are no longer required to create any materials via crafting.

More class specific items and sets should drop for your characters helping them with the progression to 6 piece glory!

This week in Diablo 3 news!

So the reaper of streams himself josh mosquera tweeted that PTR for 2.1 should hopefully be coming "soon"

Blue posts commented alot on drop rates and would like to remind you that in no way have drop rates been nerfed, kadala has always been a bitch and did not become worse in any way.

In better news 2.1 brings hope for anyone using a pet to get the job done. from call of the ancients to zombie dogs and mystic ally, all the pets will now actually do some work. No long should they stand by idle while you are being chased down by the demons of hell. You can see this in the video, as the zombie dog seems to stop attacking and stand there. Note this is planned for 2.1 so it is still a ways off.

Witch Doctors will be happy to hear that haunt and locust swarm damange increase percentages on items will start to work soon. as usual no one can say when this fix will push on, but hopefully some of these things sneak out in an earlier update.

And finally blizzard has released a massive collection of online guides for diablo 3 and the link for this can be found HERE. They put together quite a long list for you to look through, so make sure to check it out.

100% Legendary Buff is here to stay! Diablo 3 Reaper Of Souls

The 100% increase to legendary drop rates that has come with the 2 year anniversary buff is officially here to stay says blizzard. They recently posted on the official Diablo 3 Forums this information:
Hello folks,

I come bearing exciting news. Due to the overwhelming popularity of our Anniversary buff we have decided to keep the increased Legendary drop rate once the Anniversary celebration ends. Once the buff is disabled Tomorrow Morning, you will find that the new base line drop rates for Legendary items will be the same as those you have all enjoyed for the last week.

Happy hunting and link the loot!

Now just to be clear, the 2 year anniversary buff was giving you double the normal drop rate as well as double rift fragments. The Rift Fragments are not still buffed, you get less, so I hope you spent some time farming rifts before the buff ended.

Just wanted to make sure everyone knows that just since the buff is gone, does not mean the drops have stopped! LOOT ON MY FRIENDS!

Current Witchdoctor Fire Pet Build

Hey you guys wanted to stop by and give the build that I have been using on my witchdoctor for some time now to farm Torment 3 fairly quickly. It uses fire damage, pets, and of course some burning toads! Still trying to work toward T6 but I need a few more items or ideas, any feedback is appreciated!

Skills:

1. Plague of Toads - Explosive Toads
2. Piranhas - Piranhado
3. Locust Swarm - Searing Locusts
4. Spirit Walk - Umbral Shock
5. Gargantuan - Wrathful Protector
6. Summon Zombie Dogs - Burning Dogs

Passives:

1. Grave injustice
2. Fetish Sycophants
3. Midnight Feast
4. Fierce Loyalty

Basic Idea:

Normally I would agree that toads is slightly uncontrollable outside the Rain of Toads rune. However with the Flayer Ceremonial Knife the toads are WAY MORE well behaved and double the damage is never a bad thing! Of course the build requires Mask of Jeram and Tasker and Theo also. But if you have those 3 items then the build should function basically the same for you.
I have about 1 million damage and just under 6 million tuffness.
Any Feedback is always appreciated, still working toward T6!

TL;DR: Burning Pets, Read the list, Watch the pets cook then eat faces!

See and Hear the Build in Action:
